Can you tell us a little about how you met?
Kelly and I first met when we were attending Canterbury University in 2011. We first spotted each other on a bus ride from Christchurch to Hokitika for the infamous Wild Food Festival. That was shortly after the February Canterbury Earthquake and so it seemed somehow fitting that we ended up getting married in the year of the global pandemic!
How was your experience planning your wedding?
We had such a great experience planning our wedding, which is definitely saying something given it was through the uncertainty of the 2020 lockdown. Once we had decided on our venue, everything seemed to fall into place. Ellie made everything so easy and we knew we were in safe hands with the Duke’s amazing dinner menu and wine lists.
Are there any standout moments of your wedding that you’re willing to share?
I loved getting ready upstairs and being able to peek out and see everyone getting things ready, or even just our guests wandering around enjoying Russell. The Waterfront rooms with connecting balcony are beautiful, and we felt so glam getting ready there.
So how did the big day turn out?
Incredible! We couldn’t have asked for a more amazing day. We had so much fun and wouldn’t have changed a thing.
