Siran & Paul

How did you meet?

Paul and I had been childhood friends. Reconnecting six years previously, we had a nearly two-year engagement after I had proposed much to all our children’s delight. Our wedding day was so special to us as it officially blended our family of eight and was a celebration of love and wonderful family moments that we will treasure forever. Blending families can be tricky and our wedding was the result of years of patience, love and understanding to be where we are today.

How was your experience planning your wedding?

Having spent many pleasurable hours researching Bride and Groom magazine we were then ready to plan our wedding. Planning an early winter wedding we had decided on having our wedding ceremony and reception at the same venue. The Hotel had a fantastic all weather friendly deck overlooking the bay where we held our ceremony and connected to the ballroom for our reception. A talented local seamstress Sharon Burges designed and made my ivory gown with beautifully detailed French guipere lace bodice and sleeves enhanced by small crystals and pearls.

What drew you to choose the Duke as your wedding destination?

Living in the beautiful Bay of Islands there are many venues to consider, however the historical Duke of Marlborough Hotel really stood out to us and complemented our envisioned theme of elegant glamour. The hotel hosted 5 star accommodation for the bridal party and guests with luxurious rooms that we were all able to enjoy. In a beautiful room overlooking the bay my bridesmaids and I got ready.

How was your wedding day at The Duke?

My room was a hive of activity with all our children bouncing in and out to join in on all the fun and preparations. Rather than being stressful, this made the day even more special to have them all share in the excitement. I did not feel nervous on the day but I did have a teary moment when it hit me that Paul and I were getting married finally cementing our family. We had a wonderful romantic and meaningful ceremony on the deck surrounded by our children, dearest family and friends. Our lovely celebrant paid homage to my late Nana who had been so excited about the wedding. Paul and I had written our vows to each other which included our promises to each other and our children - so special! The incredible staff at the Duke had prepared the venue as planned - it was perfect and exactly as I had envisioned! We had such an amazing day with our family and friends and we’re still buzzing about it!
